TANTILLUS GROVE A rather small pine forest which provides a nice place to hunt for woodland prey such as deer, hare, and squirrel. Elk herds have also been known to settle here for a time.

TALA The dawn sky was a brightening somber grey, save for the band of salmon pink that hovered over the distant mountains. The grey peaks gave the bottom a jagged edge, whereas the clouds above soothed it with ivory swirls. Tala wandered about the woodland, the twigs and fallen branches snapping beneath her body mass. She was in search of a fallen tree in particular, one that was propped up against others and was thick enough to support her weight. Finally stumbling upon her 'relaxation-station,' she mounted the ghostly trunk. She lied down and allowed her hind leg to dangle off awkwardly, but she was comfortable, serene. Her mind frayed from her surroundings to the other lovely Guardian, one aspect that made her fall head over paws were Stevie's eyes. They were the type of brown that was like a sweet chocolate. The chocolate that melts at the slightest bit of the heat from love, or happiness. But that chocolate can also grow hard from the cold harsh reality that is apparent in this world. Heartbreak, or depression.

STEVIE | The Guardian "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Tags: Tala
Stevie hadn't been wandering very long before an irresistible scent had caught her attention, dragging her in like a fish on a line. Notes of pine and rosemary, and of course mud, drug her closer to where she knew Tala would be. Stevie didn't often come to the grove but she appreciated the sparseness of trees that let the dawn sun peak through their branches, how it seemed serene in a way that not many other places could accomplish. Mother Nature must have took special care when crafting this place.
With the brisker pace that Stevie had adopted, it took her almost no time at all to find the object of much of her affection. Tala was draped across a fallen trunk in a pose that really wasn't fair, a multicolored smear of fur that stuck out among the healthy green flora and rough bark of the trees alike. It brought a smile to Stevie's face. She hadn't the slightest clue what the pair would label their relationship as, but she still felt pleased that there seemed to be something between them all the same, that the wolf who'd caught her own attention seemed to be interested in her, as well.
"Hey," was all Stevie offered as she approached, settling down in front of her perched tribe-mate. She kept her gaze locked on Tala's own, admiring the way the pine hues she found there to match so nicely with the trees that they were surrounded by. That and the way Tala had herself poised would've made it easy to believe she had ruled this place. Stevie liked the thought, her eyes softening considerably compared to how they were around anyone else. Hopefully words weren't needed for Tala to understand that she'd caught herself an admirer.

TALA Tala inhaled deeply, a briny aroma filling her nose. And with that, her demeanor automatically perked. Her subdued pine orbs danced about the surrounding vegetation in search of the source. When a soft, 'hey' erupted into the air from behind Tala, she glanced back so fast she completely wiped out and fell to the earth. Embarrassed, though excited to see Stevie, she found her feet and tried to laugh off the incident. She could feel her skin under her lightly colored pelt heating up with embarrassment.
Her mud-socks contrasted her pale pelt per usual. Stevie's eyes were the shade of acorns and the trunks of the surrounding trees, just bright enough to shine in the shadows. Tala often kept her gaze on the matching soil or focused on the sky, but when she was brave enough to meet them, a shiver of golden light would race down her spine.
"Hey!" she finally greeted, her voice hoarse from not using it once since she woke up. Her eyes met Stevie's and the same bridge from the past was built again, mentally tying them together tighter. Lost in transfix within the irises the color of espresso, rich with reddish-brown flecks, Tala sat there quietly, no other exchange of words. At this point, Tala should be relaxed around Stevie, they've known each other long enough but Tala can never get enough of those remarkable features. "Did you see Keste and Nita at the pond today?" Tala asked, taking note of the other Guardian's soaked pelt. She had come across them on her way to the Grove but paid no attention in engaging conversation.

Stevie watched in a mixture of horror and amusement as Tala's body fell to the earth with a thud. On instinct her body made to move forward and see that everything was alright, but Tala was quick to scramble to her paws and start laughing softly. Stevie joined in with her own snicker, a teasing brow raised as her amusement turned to a fondness so rare that it almost looked unnatural on her face. She'd known Tala long enough to recognize her embarrassment and it was frankly endearing.
"Hey," Stevie repeated once again, teasing the both of them now. Warmth was pooling in her gut at the eye contact they shared and her ears perked to catch every raspy note as Tala started speaking again. She licked her still-damp chops at the mention of the pond, tasting the water as her tongue skimmed the tips of the tear marking on her face. "Yeah, I did. Think I might've interrupted a date," she smirked, drawing out the last word as Tala's gaze swept over Stevie's soaked, wooly pelt. Under anyone else's view she wouldn't gone cold and defensive, but with Tala she was more than happy to be examined. "I dropped hints for Keste that I'm hoping for a hunt today. You should join." With that Stevie unceremoniously dropped her rear into a sitting position, her focus never leaving Tala.

TALA
Tala's ears swiveled atop of her crown with each word, acknowledging every remark, statement, and tease that left Stevie's mouth. When her cinnamon-hued orbs pierced Tala's sage, she felt as if every ounce of breath was robbed from her lungs and was sold to dawn's atmosphere through the black market. Since she was a yearling Tala longed for this moment and now she couldn't bear to lose it - lose the one thing that made her feel so complete. Tala almost completely forgot about the unusual markings that were created at the tear duct and eventually broke off and blended with the rest of her fur. They were just so common to her now.
A chuckle escaped her mouth as she mentioned the interruption of a date, and then the invitation of the hunt, "we wouldn't want to upset the packies now would we?" she pouted, mimicking the angry pack-members. With their luck, they would end up chasing the meal into the 'packs territory' and stir up trouble. Tala didn't understand why they all couldn't just live in harmony. After all, they were all the same species, fighting the same battles. "Though, if you're in then I'm in," she smiled widely. "So glad I found the Tribe, I would absolutely hate being ranked so strictly with the pack." Stevie

Stevie tilted her head, smirking as Tala chucked. Honestly she hadn't even considered the pack wolves until now, as she often forgot that they, for whatever reason, thought themselves entitled to lay "claim" over a portion of Mother Nature's land. What fools, thinking they had any authority to do such things. "Couldn't care less," she snorted in reference to their feelings, eyes locked on Tala's mocking pout. "Nobody can stop me when I'm hangry."
Stevie stood up and gently shook out her pelt before sitting back down, focusing all her attention on Tala as she spoke. She didn't think much before answering. "I'm glad you did too."
A short statement loaded with meanings. She was glad that Tala had found a place she could be so comfortably herself. She was also, selfishly, glad that particular place was somewhere close to Stevie, where they could be untethered to frivalry and strict rankings together. Stevie always made her own distaste for pack life clear, so instead she wanted to keep this on Tala - to let the cream and brown female know that she'd heard her out and genuinely cared. A rarity. "So I take it I don't have to worry 'bout you running off to them any time soon. Big Bad Packies aren't gonna steal my Tala away?" She snickered, subtling hiding an insecurity in the question but letting the possessive wording slip. Maybe there was something in the air right now, but Stevie was feeling exceptionally needy today, wanting reassurance that the other female was happy and had no plans to leave. Stevie long ago decided she didn't ever want to give this up.

TALA "Us big girls gotta eat. Why get thinner when you can eat more dinner?" Tala chimed, her customary frown or stoic expression wasn't quite a smile, but it turned upward to one cheek; a smirk rather. "I'll be damned if they get snappy with us," Tala remarked, referring to the pack wolves getting all territorial and such. Her sage eyes followed Stevie, thinking she was ready to leave and begin the hunt but instead she just took her seat once again. The words that departed from Stevie's mouth hit her like a truck, she wasn't entirely sure if the meaning behind it was intentional or not, so Tala just sort of whisked it away with a gentle wag of her banner.
The next phrase confirmed her own theory, 'my Tala' embedded itself in her mind and she suppressed a wide smile. She was almost certain that the heat that was radiating from Tala's own body signaled that she really liked her. "As long as you're here, then no," she stated bluntly before being able to filter her own words StevieEEEEEEEEEK DFKJGHDRKGDAR

Stevie watched the reactions flit across Tala's features - a good distraction while she waited for a reply. Stevie had hardly said anything but it still felt like she'd laid her most inner thoughts out for the other female to judge. And when the judgement came, Stevie couldn't help but let a sigh escape.
Stevie was spurred forward by the reply, her paws moving slowly and keeping low to the ground, only stopping when her nose was a fraction of an inch away from Tala's. She sat there for a moment and just looked at the wolf before her, eyelids at half mast as she drank in the familiar features. She wanted to say something like "good," or "I'm not going anywhere," but the words never came. Instead she took one step forward, and slightly to the left, utilizing their new proximity to rub her cheek against Tala's in a display of affection she'd never used before.
Stevie wasn't a tactile creature. She often hated anyone in her personal space, but this was surprisingly nice. Being close to the one she cared so deeply for settled something she hadn't even known was stirring within her, and she couldn't help but hum at the sensation. What had started as a way for her to avoid words had easily turned into something that she found herself hoping could happen more often. She allowed herself the closeness for a few more moments before backing up the step she'd taken before, belatedly looking to Tala for permission, a question in her features asking if that was okay. This vulnerability was uncharted territory for Stevie, and she needed to know if her affection was as welcome as she hoped.

TALA
Tala's ears smeared themselves against her crown as the opposing Guardian pressed forward. Unsure of her move, Tala just stood there, almost in a trance while walking across the imaginary bridge made between their eyes. There was something in those brown eyes of Stevie's that was so beautiful, so safe and warm. In just one look Tala was 'home.' She reached out and made the connection, and like Mother Nature herself had arranged it, it seemed as if Stevie fell for her just as hard. Just then, Tala went stiff due to the lack of distance between the two of them, her whole frame heating up per usual. As soon as Stevie came into contact with her, Tala geeked out completely. Instead of just butterflies in her stomach, she felt the whole entire damn forest. Even though the lass had only brushed up against her in one place, it felt as if all her nerves were going haywire, tiny sparks igniting the ends of them.
With the encounter ending rather quickly, Tala rushed forward, nearly tackling Stevie in the process as she threw her frame into hers; a rather graceless maneuver. Pure joy obvious in her actions, Tala continued to brush herself against the other female. Real smooth.

Stevie only got to watch Tala for a moment before a shocked gasp was flying out of her lungs. The other guardian had rushed forward and pressed their frames together in the most physical gesture that Stevie had ever experienced, sending both of them almost stumbling to the ground but saved by Stevie tensing her legs on impact. The gray lass stood shocked for a moment, rigid and trying to process the gentle and pleasant brushing of Tala's fur against her own, but after a moment her muscles unclenched and she melted into the touch.
The whole thing felt like it should be two yearlings in their place instead of grown ass adults, but Stevie had never felt this love in any degree before, so she allowed herself the indulgence. Having Tala's fur tangled with hers as she inhaled her scent was a calming bliss that easily melted down her frosty exterior. She loved Tala.
Stevie starting to return the affection more actively, now rubbing up against the other female and even giving a few shy licks behind Tala's dark ears. "Not very subtle, are ya?" she teased, though at this point Stevie was being about as subtle as a neon sign about her feelings.

TALA
"Subtle?" she scoffed, "what's that?" she joked. The strong, salty fragrance floated all about Tala's nostrils. The thought of another one of the tribe members erupting from the woodland made Tala chuckle slightly. Finally, she intentionally put all her weight against Stevie until they both went crashing to the earth. Dust, leaves, and branches fled from under their bodies as they came in contact with the ground. Tala lied on her stomach, burying her face in Stevie's pale fur. She inhaled the briny aroma once again and her body relaxed completely. "We're such pups," she finally spoke, her voice muffled from under the thick, wooly pelt.

Stevie snorted unattractively at Tala's joking, allowing herself to be pushed over and then hitting the ground with a thud and a wheeze from her lungs. It was slightly damp from where she'd shaken her fur and stood here dripping in lake water, but it didn't bother Stevie at all - and she knew Tala didn't mind a little mud. "We're such pups? Excuse me miss but I'm not the one tackling innocent bystanders to the ground." Stevie snickered as she felt Tala's face buried into her fur, breaths of air warming the shorter hairs of her inner coat. The tear-stained female knew that if the other guardian got any closer, she'd undoubtably feel the hammering of Stevie's heartbeat. It was a surprisingly nice thought, so Stevie shifted and squirmed until she was on her back to make it happen. She couldn't remember the last time she'd laid on her back for another wolf.
It was quiet with a few moments so Stevie took the opportunity to soak everything in. The pleasant scent of Tala mixed with the grove, the warm sun finally sharing it's rays with the rest of the world, the chirps of nearby birds and occasional hum of an insect. It was so peacefully it almost hurt. Stevie didn't even feel the urge to get up and start patrolling something for once in her miserable life.
"Hey Tala..." The words left her before she could stop them, and Stevie suddenly felt shy as she tasted the other female's name. She moved her head to return the gesture of burying her face in the other's fur, but she couldn't just leave Tala hanging, and she did want an answer, anyway. What better time to get one then now? "We like each other right? Like actually." She cringed at herself, curling into Tala further to hide. "You know what I mean. Cause I do? Like a lot?" The words were muffled and Stevie was squirming a bit uncomfortably but she kept breathing deep breaths to calm herself. Of all the lessons her piece of shit father taught her, this was never on the list.

TALA
"Hey now, I wasn't the one who crept up on another like a stalker," she attempted to grow louder, though it was still muffled by Stevie's pelt. The salty, savory aroma continued to waft through Tala's nostrils with every intake of oxygen. The one thing that would make this situation even better would be mud, mud makes every situation better right? She retracted her head from the mess of fur and glanced around the forest floor, fallen trees of yesteryear littered it. The sun-dappled shade blinked with every gust of wind which sent Tala's long furs floating about. Tala hummed, an acknowledgment to Stevie's introduction of a new topic. Once again, Tala's breath ceased in her throat, mid inhale. Her pulse skipping, running, dancing, swimming, all of the above. "No ma'am, I hate you," she laughed rather loudly as she threw herself onto Stevie, overlapping her body. With her body sprawled out on the other Guardian's she spoke once more, her whole body vibrating with each word, "On a real note, I believe so."
"Now, the real question is," she halted her thought as she crawled off of her, lowering her rump onto the earth, "where the hell has all the mud gone?"

The laugh that Tala's response gave Stevie was well needed, much of the tension she held in her shoulders melting away. The second part of the answer wasn't even necessary for her to get all the answer she needed. Tala liked her back. Stevie tore her face out of the comforting cream pelt, a rare, genuine, full-blown grin spreading across her features. Crinkling her eyes and distorting the tears that stained her cheeks as she was rolled under Tala's weight compliantly. "Good."
Stevie didn't bother to hold in the whine of protest as Tala peeled them apart. She watched from her place on the ground as the other warrior settled on her rump and asked a very in-character question. It made Stevie laugh again, more subdued this time. "God, you're so predictable," she teased, hauling herself up with a grunt and stumbling into Tala in the process. "There won't be any here, but I know where you can find some." Stevie brushed past the female one last time before setting into motion, her legs carrying her away from the grove at a trot for a few paces before halting and looking over her shoulder, a smirk thrown back at Tala. "C'mon babes. Time for you to say good morning to Keste and Nita."
