LEON | The Sovereign "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. The sun was still hanging low in the sky, crawling slowly out of its slumber to wake up the world below. Leon had been sitting and watching it for some time now, as he'd recently made a habit of doing, sitting still as stone by the reflective body of water his pack relied so heavily on. It was his favorite way to start a new day.
A gentle breeze tousled his long fur, filling his lungs with the fresh and earthy scent of the land. Usually Leon would mark the territory before the rest of the pack woke, wander over to this pond, and then be back in time to see the rest of the Aurum Pack begin their duties, but today he was changing it up a bit. The Sovereign knew Chinuk would be heading out on his morning patrol any moment now, and he was hoping to catch a moment alone with the Warlord. Recently some herds of prey the pack had relied on had been acting strangely, taking new and odd paths that extended beyond the territory the Aurum had claimed, and Leon wanted to be proactive. He knew by now that even the slightest change in nature's behavior could hint that something much more was brewing beneath the surface.
Leon's muzzle twitched, contorting his blank expression into a subtle frown. The Aurum Pack had faced many difficulties over the years, and he was no stranger to resolving the issues. But this felt different. And he was not fond of different.

SKYE | HUNTER
A lifeless creature hung from her jaws as Skye slowly approached the pond. A dead rabbit it was. It was clear with was not a serious catch or perhaps she was being lazy, either way her snout was smeared with blood and it did not appear to be a clean kill on her part. She would have to go out for something bigger later in the day, but the rabbit was a nice warm up to begin with.
Still panting from the little chase, the she-wolf caught sight of the sovereign. She stopped in place, unsure what to do there for a long moment. She wasn't expecting the pack leader to beat her to the spot. Cautiously, she lowered her head respectfully in his direction, and moved around to make sure she was within Leon's view as she leaved to approach him instead. A couple yards away, not too close, Skye dropped the rabbit to the ground with a light thud. "Good morning." She greeted politely, quickly licking her chops as an attempt to clean herself of the blood. "I didn't expect to find you here."

LEON | The Sovereign"Speech." Thoughts. Actions. The soft crunching of earth beneath paws alerted Leon to an approaching presence. He didn't move from his seated position by the lake, expecting for who he assumed was Chinuk to approach him, but as the wolf came into view he was surprised to find it was the hunter, Skye. She was panting and slightly bloodied with a dead rabbit hanging from between her jaws - not an unusual sight. "The same to you, Skye," he grunted, face schooled into a neutral expression as he kept his gaze on her bowed head, not bothering to explain why he was here at the pond. "I see you've had a successful morning."
Leon's voice matched her polite tone but he made the purposeful decision to relax his posture, one hind leg shifting out of place into a more comfortable position, hoping that Skye would follow his lead. For all his appreciation of her respectful nature, Leon had long ago decided that he liked it better when his pack members were more comfortable around him. He'd never say that out loud, of course, but rather tried to influence them through his own actions. Little did he know that what Leon thought was a casual pose, really just looked a little awkward.
"That will make a fine breakfast for the pups," he nodded to her fresh kill, trying to spark conversation as he waited for Chinuk to arrive.

SKYE | HUNTER
"I have.." Skye responded awkwardly, shifting her weight around in her paws as she studied the leader with care. She's never felt the need to be so formal with anyone with the exception of the sovereign, it was always a strange experience. She felt the need to explain herself after his words. To explain why she came to the pond, but urge was quickly squashed when she noticed a change in demeanor. She tilted her head, studying his awkward position with her typical curiosity. Finally, not even a moment later, she let out a soft sigh of relief with a giggle to accompany it. She took a step closer before moving to drop down comfortably on her belly with one her her legs stretched out behind her. She looked over the calm pond water before turning her eyes back to Leon, "I was thinking the same. I do hope they enjoy it, it wasn't exactly an easy catch for a rabbit, I will give it that." She licked one of her paws before rubbing it against her snout stained red.

LEON | The Sovereign"Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Leon watched for Skye's reaction to him, relieved when she let out a giggle and fell down to her stomach. His plan had worked and he silently congratulated himself, his chest puffing up slightly as he offered her a smile. Leon followed her gaze out across the water, but while she eventually turned back to look at him Leon's eyes stayed put as he listened to her words. "I could never catch those little beasts, so I'm really not one to judge." He turned to look at her once again as Skye continued to clean herself. "It really is a good thing we have you."
Leon nodded to himself, as if agreeing with the praise he'd just given the hunter. He really was grateful to have the wolves in his pack that he did. Without them, who would he be but an old Sovereign's son? He was no fighter or hunter or medic; it was why he took his job so seriously. It was what he was born for.
Subconsciously Leon pulled his leg back in so he was once again sitting prim and proper. While waiting for the Warlord to appear he decided that questioning Skye certainly wouldn't hurt. "Skye, I was wondering..." he looked to her with a frown, "The herds, I've noticed that their routes have been going farther beyond our borders than usual. I was thinking that perhaps they were trying to avoid something new, besides us, but I haven't noticed an influx in bear or cougar populations." His tone was formal now, the concern and frustration clear by the furrow of his brow. "I was wondering if you knew or have seen anything?" He feared another spell where food would become scarce was upon them. One they couldn't afford, especially with growing pups.

SKYE | HUNTER Skye was chuckling softly at his first comment but it quickly cut off from his next words. She glanced up from her paws at Leon's praise with wide eyes. It was very unexpected, but pleasing nevertheless. She offered him a shy smile, her tail twitching happily against her will, "You're very kind." Her smile grew for a short moment but she quickly glanced away to turn her attention back to the pond.
His next words quickly gained her attention, his proper tone and change of air turned her more solemn. She tilted her head in thought, tucking her leg back in so she could straighten herself up in a sitting position. She lifted her nose as a breeze brushed the fur along her face, taking a moment to think back to her previous hunts. "I don't believe I've seen anything strange, but now that I think about it... you're right about the herds. My trips have gone on a bit longer than usual because of their routes." She suddenly frowned the more she thought about it, if the issue was not handled soon it could be turned into a serious problem. "What will we do?"

CHINUK
Chinuk's usual arrival was slowed due to the presence of a youngster, but he didn't mind the company. A soft, closed smile was present on his face from conversations filled with laughter during the trio's trip to the body of water. The War-lord hummed as he wondered what the Sovereign was still doing here, Leon usually had his duties done as soon as Chinuk started making his rounds. "Hey Lee," he greeted casually before glancing at Set and Soot at his own sides. He offered a slight bob of his head, acknowledging the Hunters presence, "Skye." Clearing out his throat, Chinuk lowered his rump across from Leon, a puzzled look painted on his face, a response to the serious atmosphere; a silent, 'what happened?'

LEON | The Sovereign "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Tags: Skye , Chinuk , Soot , Set Skye shifting herself into a sitting position caught Leon's gaze once again, and he watched as she seemed to contemplate his words. A breeze gently tugged at both their fur, it's contrast to the serious mood of the conversation helping to keep the Sovereign cool and collected. Here by the pond it would be easy to believe there wasn't a problem in the world, with the warm morning sun and the smell of fresh water and grass, but sadly that just wasn't the case. Skye's words validated some of his fears.
"I'm going to speak to Chinuk and see..." Leon began to reply to the hunter, but trailed off as he heard something coming near. His head swiveled just in time to see the warlord approach and a small smile spread across his lips at the casual greeting. "Morning, Yash. We were just talking about you." The words were teasing but his tone was serious. Leon breathed out a heavy sigh as Chinuk situated himself, the sovereign glancing at Skye's frown and then the warlord's puzzled expression. He'd feel bad for making such a fuss under any less serious circumstances, but if there was a way he could prevent the herd from migrating further, prevent Skye's job from getting any more impossible, then he'd make the biggest stink he had to in order to see things resolved. "I was asking Skye if she noticed anything that could be affecting the herd's usual routes. They've been avoiding the territory a bit more than usual. If you've noticed anything, Chinuk, no matter how small it may seem..."
Leon cut himself off as a familiar, but unexpected scent caught his attention. His brow quirked and he shot a curious glance at the warlord. "Have you brought friends along with you on patrol?" he asked, referring to the scent of Soot and Set that would've been more faded if they'd stayed behind at the den.

SKYE | HUNTER Skye straightened up at the sudden appearance of the warlord. She slowly nodded her head in his direction in greeting, "Chinuk." She mimicked, curling her tail around to tuck in close to her legs. She watched the two high ranked wolves in silence, looking between them awkwardly, "It has been getting more and more difficult to track them these days. Its possible but it will start taking longer than usual." She lifted her right hind leg to gently scratch behind her ear, looking more and more worried as the seconds ticked by. She wouldn't know what she would do if she began coming back empty handed, the simple thought of it was humiliating.
The mention of others quickly snatched her up from her thoughts and she looked over at Leon, lifting her nose to take another whiff of the air. Her head followed her nose and she silently glanced over to where the scent led her. It was indeed Set, and Soot.

CHINUK
The towering lad pondered momentarily as Leon finished his statement regarding the odd behavior of the herds. "Perhaps it's just the fluctuation in weather? Or maybe the grass tastes funny here," he joked lightly with the second statement, "I personally am not really sure what it could be, hunting isn't really my strongest deck of cards." With brows furrowed, he continued to think until the Sovereign's previous question flicked in his mind, "oh! I have Soot and Set accompanying me today," he smiled widely as he glanced back to the two, "was thinking I could motivate Set in searching for more herbs," he teased the Shaman, "and since the kid wants to be a warrior when he's of age, thought he could come with every few days." Soot had gotten momentarily distracted by a beetle, but he was brought back to reality when he heard Chinuk speaking. Leaving his prey behind, he ran after the warlord until he came across the small gathering by the pond. "Hey Skye," he greeted the hunter, realizing he probably shouldn't interrupt the conversation between Chinuk and Leon. With a playful wag of his tail, Soot turned his attention to the water. The dragonflies zipping over the surface of the pond were always so tempting to chase, though the adults never let him get too close to the water.

LEON | The Sovereign "Speech." Thoughts. Actions. Tags: Skye , Chinuk , Soot , Set Leon waited for both Skye and Chinuk to finished speaking, soaking up their words and nodding along. Before he could reply Chinuk was explaining Soot and Set's presence, and Leon turned his head to offer both the shaman and the pup a nod of his head as a greeting. At the mention of Soot's desire to become a warrior, the sovereign flicked his gaze back up to Chinuk with a meaningful gleam in his eye. As far as Leon was concerned that was not happening any time soon... or ever. It was far too dangerous for a pup of Soot's size and stature, but that was a running conversation he decided not to delve into right now.
For now he just watched fondly as the pup greeted Skye before he returned his gaze to the pond behind Chinuk. It seemed that him and the warlord had found a bubble of privacy as the other adults were distracted. "Very well. Just keep an eye out for anything odd," his amber gaze locked with Chinuk's, "and I mean anything. I trust if there's something to report, you'll know to come to me straight away." Leon let out a deep breath, his expression a bit more vulnerable for an instant. "It may seem like nothing, but I'm worried, Chinuk. I don't want us to take another hit. We can't afford one."

CHINUK
Chinuk nodded with each word Leon remarked, "sure thing," he offered another smile before directing his attention to Soot. The youngster was preoccupied with the buzzing insects so Chinuk didn't mind, as long as Soot didn't get too caught up and start chasing one. A though pricked his mind, "the Lumen. What if it's the Lumen's sudden presence around the territory that's making them uneasy?" he suggested his theory as he glanced across the pond and the vicinity of the gathering to be sure there were no intruders.

Skye quickly got the hint to leave the older wolves to talk about the issue and stood to join Soot. She moved over to grab the bloody rabbit back up in her jaws, glancing over at Set in the process. She studied him for a moment before sending him a warm smile and a little nod of greeting. She turned her eyes back over to the pup looking over the water, and moved to join him. "Hello Soot, would you like some breakfast?" She managed to say around the rabbit before tossing it a couple feet away from the pup. "It was a quick one this time." She walked up beside him, glancing down at him with a playful gleam in her eyes. She has always had a soft spot for the little ones, she enjoyed their curiosity and playfulness. It was like a breath of fresh air.
